Prior to that she served as Director of Business Development at SLIL Biomedical, an emerging drug discovery company developing polymer therapeutics for cancer and other diseases.

Toby received a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As an NIH Fellow, she conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University and at the University of Texas-Austin. As an undergraduate at UC Berkeley and UC Davis, she studied molecular evolution and gene regulation.

Toby is the Program Chair at the BioScience Forum, www.biosf.org, a non-profit educational organization serving the Bay Area life science community.

Synapsis is the biological phenomena of the pairing of homologous chromosomes, hence the tag line,
